Department of Psychology of Religion deals with religion in terms of psychology. In this framework, the program focuses on main problems of human soul, main concepts of Psychology of Religion, the concept of psyche, the epistemology of religious beliefs, relation between religion and psychological health, religious symbols, mystical states, the origin of the belief in religion and God, religious conversion, and types of religious personalities. It examines the nature of man’s religious life from various perspectives and applies psychological methods to decode his spiritual dimension. The science focuses on decipherable personal religious behaviors rather than on the phenomenon of religion itself. Psychology of Religion cooperates with other sciences, including Sufism, Sociology of Religion, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, and the like. Bedii Ziya Egemen, Neda Armaner, and Erdoğan Fırat are among the distinguished scholars who have contributed to the Department.
