Department of History of Islam examines major political, social, and cultural events that have taken place throughout the history of Islamic Religion, dating back to approximately 1450 years. Through this program, events and activities around Turkish history and civilization are discussed after examining the basic subjects of Islamic history. History of Islam applies an interdisciplinary approach in its research and utilizes a wide variety of sources, from poetry to archival materials and from written primary sources to archeological remains. Students acquire the historical and chronological point of view as well as the ability to read archival documents. Professors Neşet Çağatay, Hüseyin Gazi Yurdaydın, Ahmet Uğur, and Mustafa Fayda are among the noteworthy scholarly figures in the history of the Department.
